Turning European cultural heritage into immersive digital experiences
LIP3D is a European project that brings archaeological and cultural heritage into the digital realm, transforming the way we explore, experience, and pass on history.
The project aims to revolutionize access to European cultural heritage through advanced digitalization and the creation of immersive experiences.
The goal is to develop innovative tools and practices for 3D reconstruction, virtual and augmented reality, and gaming applied to archaeological sites and cultural contexts, with pilot case studies in Italy, Cyprus, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania.
The project combines 3D modeling with interactive information, VR/AR, Metaverso e GamificationVR/AR, Metaverse environments and Gamification, alongside training and dissemination programs for cultural institutions, with particular focus on sites at risk from conflict, natural disasters, or degradation.
Ud’Anet’s contribution: 3D, XR, and collaborative platforms to enhance heritage sites
Ud’Anet activities:
Development of interactive 3D models for digital exploration of sites and cultural content
Integration of 3D models into immersive XR environments and Metaverse scenarios for more engaging and accessible experiences
Design and development of XR applications (AR/VR/MR) focused on heritage storytelling and enhancement
Creation of gamified and gaming experiences to boost engagement, learning, and audience participation
Technological support for acquisition and digitization processes (pipeline management, formats, optimization, and asset handling)
Structured organization and archiving of data and digital assets to ensure reuse, traceability, and long-term sustainability
Development and configuration of project workspaces (collaborative environments) to support coordination, document sharing, asset management, and partner collaboration
Contribution to training and capacity-building activities for operators, institutions, and cultural stakeholders
Participation in dissemination and communication initiatives aimed at the public and institutions to maximize visibility and impact
6 countries, one goal: digital preservation and accessibility
The international consortium brings together universities, research centers, and companies from across Europe, selecting some of the most iconic archaeological and cultural sites as case studies (Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria). The project has a dual objective: to ensure the digital documentation and preservation of cultural heritage, and to create new forms of experiential access that are inclusive, including for people with mobility challenges or disabilities.
From memory to experience, with sustainable and inclusive innovation
With LiP3D, we help build a future where the memory of the past becomes a living, shared experience, combining technological innovation, cultural enhancement, and sustainability. It’s not just a scientific challenge—it’s a new way of rethinking the relationship between communities, history, and digital technologies.
